The University of Pittsburgh's Joseph M. Katz Graduate School of Business Announces Winners of the McKinsey Cup Competition

PITTSBURGH-The University of Pittsburgh's Joseph M. Katz Graduate School of Business once again held the McKinsey Cup Playoffs and Competition in Oakland earlier this month. The playoffs and competition are the conclusion of a class that merges traditional and experiential learning by pairing students with client organizations to work on real-world issues. The course is designed to equip students to succeed in an increasingly complex business world.

During the 2009 spring term, 17 groups of students were matched with the following clients: American Eagle Outfitters, Bayer Material Science LLC, Dlubak Corporation, 84 Lumber Company, The Ellis School, HM Insurance Group, Kennametal, Inc., Massaro Corporation, McGowan Institute for Regenerative Medicine (Pitt-UPMC), Nemacolin Woodlands, Philips (Respironics), Inc., Precision Therapeutics, Inc., Red Oak Café, Respironics Foundation, Samaritan Counseling Center, and the Westinghouse Electric Company.

During the competition, students were judged by faculty, alumni, and business executives from participating organizations. The playoffs narrowed the competition down to the four teams who then participated in the McKinsey Cup Competition.

The winning team, comprising MBA students Pat McIlwain, Daniel O'Donnell, Khaleel Khaja, and Matthew Stevenson, worked with the McGowan Institute. The team worked with client executive Pat Cantini and faculty advisors Rabi Chatterjee and Willy Hoos.

Second place went to Katz MBA students Alona Reva, John Keyser, Tina Chih-Wei Sheen, and Ting Lan, who were paired with HM Insurance Group.

Third place went to College of Business Administration (CBA) students Diana Trench, Meagan Campbell, Tracy Jovanovich, and Katz MBA student Jamie Lucas-Vergona, with Respironics Foundation.

And fourth place went to Katz MBA students Spencer Johnston, Phillipp Kaethe, Niyata Kawewong, and CBA student Sandra Bly, with Bayer Material Science LLC.
