Exhibition Showcases Work of Pitt's Studio Arts Faculty

PITTSBURGH-The work of 14 local artists-some emerging and some already established-is being featured at the Pitt Department of Studio Arts "2008 Faculty Exhibition." The show runs through Nov. 21 at the University Art Gallery in the Frick Fine Arts Building, 650 Schenley Dr., Oakland. Gallery hours are from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. These artists create personal work and teach in Pitt's Department of Studio Arts, part of the School of Arts and Sciences. Their work has been a major part of Pittsburgh's art scene and has been shown at the Carnegie Museum of Art and the Mattress Factory, among other city venues. The faculty members excel in a diverse array of media-from painting, drawing, and printmaking to digital art, installation art, and sculpture.

Nine Pitt faculty members will deliver free public talks at noon in the gallery. The schedule follows:

Oct. 8 Lenore Thomas, assistant professor,

Barbara Weissberger, lecturer, 2007 Guggenheim Foundation Fellow;

Oct. 22 Kenneth Batista, associate professor,

Michael Morrill, associate professor;

Nov. 5 Sean Derry, part-time instructor,

Anna Divinski, part-time instructor, and

JoAnna Commandaros, assistant instructor; and

Nov. 19 Julie Stunden, part-time instructor,

Ann Hoffman, part-time instructor.
