PITTSBURGH-The University of Pittsburgh's Student Employment and Placement Assistance (SEPA) Office will host the Fall 2008 Job/Internship Fair from noon to 6 p.m. Oct. 1 in the Petersen Events Center, 3719 Terrace St., Oakland.

The event, free and open to current Pitt students and alumni, is designed to connect job seekers with potential employers. The fair will assist Pitt students and alumni in gaining an edge in the increasingly competitive career fields by providing opportunities for networking and interviewing experience.

Representatives from more than 220 organizations from around the country who are recruiting for internships as well as part- and full-time positions will attend. Notable companies will include the Microsoft Corporation, Johnson & Johnson, Liberty Mutual Group, Wells Fargo & Co., and Sunoco Inc.

According to Kathy W. Humphrey, Pitt's vice provost and dean of students, the University has taken steps towards making the job fair advantageous for students at every level of higher education. Pitt's Office of Student Affairs has sponsored numerous résumé writing workshops and other activities to assist students in preparation for the event. In addition, slots of time have been set aside for freshmen to gain networking experience with recruiters in order to learn more about corporations that hire Pitt students.

"It is our desire to dramatically enhance the job fair experience for all students," said Humphrey. "We have more employers attending than ever before, greater diversity in the types of positions recruiters are seeking to fill, and companies hiring in all 50 states. Our hope is to provide our students with a plethora of resources, information, networking events, and career clinics to prepare them for this upcoming job fair and beyond."

Shuttle services will be available from the William Pitt Union to the Petersen Events Center from noon to 6 p.m. For schedules and more information, contact Shawn Ahearn, director of communications in Pitt's Division of Student Affairs, at 412-648-1005, or visit www. careers.pitt.edu.
