Pitt's Center for Latin American Studies to Present Inaugural "The Americas-In Concert" Oct. 4
PITTSBURGH-The University of Pittsburgh's Center for Latin American Studies, a component of the University Center for International Studies, along with Med Health Services and Pittsburgh Cardiovascular Institute will present soprano Lilly Abreu in the inaugural "The Americas-In Concert." The free public concert will take place at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 4 in the Frick Fine Arts Auditorium, 650 Schenley Dr., Oakland.
Abreu, who teaches voice lessons privately and at Carnegie Mellon University, is a versatile artist from Brazil and has made numerous appearances as a recitalist and soloist with orchestras and chamber ensembles in France, Spain, Portugal, Argentina, Brazil, and the United States. In addition to her classical engagements, Abreu is also an accomplished popular music artist, performing Brazilian tunes as well as Broadway and jazz standards. She also has recorded for Disney films in Brazil, including "Beauty and the Beast," "Aladdin," "Pocahontas," and "Bambi," among others.
Immediately following the concert, Tangueros de Ley, a Pittsburgh Tango quartet, will perform at a reception in the Frick Fine Arts Building Cloister.
"The Americas-In Concert" is the first in a series of annual concerts sponsored by Med Health Services and Pittsburgh Cardiovascular Institute to promote the development of local and national professional musicians, while exposing Pittsburgh's general public to the music works of the Americas, from North to South.
