Pitt's Technology Leadership Institute Offers Underrepresented High School Students a Jump Start in Computer Science

PITTSBURGH-High school students from groups underrepresented in the computer science field can get a head start this summer by participating in the University of Pittsburgh Technology Leadership Initiative (TLI), to be held from June 23 to July 31 on Pitt's campus. This is the third year for the TLI, which was founded to spur an interest in and awareness of computer science in students largely underrepresented in the field.

The six-week summer pre-college program-which will be held from 9 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays-engages students intensively in mathematics and computer science. In addition to the more than 90 hours of course work in such subjects as programming, Web design, and robotics, the program will host workshops on achieving academic and career success. Participants will go on information technology-related field trips and meet with computer science faculty members and graduate students.

Interested students should apply online at www.cs.pitt.edu/tli by May 10. Full and partial scholarships are available for all students.
