Pitt Professor's New Book on the "Game of Love" is Released in Time for Valentine's Day
PITTSBURGH-Just in time for Valentine's Day, those hoping to get some tips on the "game of love" have the perfect resource. Cathy Day, University of Pittsburgh English professor, takes a different look at love in her new book "Comeback Season: How I Learned to Play the Game of Love" (Free Press, 2008).
In the book, Day-a novelist, Indiana native, and Indianapolis Colts fan-compares her love life to the Colts' 2006 season. Her premise is: If the Colts can come back and win the 2007 Super Bowl, then maybe she can fight back in the game of love and win. Day notes, "NFL quarterbacks and American women have a lot in common…until they get that ring on their finger they're considered failures."
Day also talks about what she calls the "well-documented problems with dating in Pittsburgh and the particular difficulties of college professors who are supposed to keep private and separate lives."
Day's book concerns the common thread between love and football. the weird world of postmodern dating, and what it means to be attractive, accomplished, smart-and still single.
Day will discuss and sign her book at 7 p.m. Feb. 12 at Joseph Beth Booksellers, 2705 E. Carson St., on Pittsburgh's South Side.
