Pitt Track Coach, University Spokesperson Available to Comment on Passing of Pitt Alumnus, 1936 Olympic Gold Medalist John Woodruff
PITTSBURGH—University of Pittsburgh track coach Alonzo Webb and Pitt spokesperson Robert Hill, vice chancellor for public affairs, are available to comment on the passing of Pitt Alumnus and Olympian John Woodruff, who died Tuesday in Fountain Hills, Ariz. He was 92.
Woodruff, who earned a BA degree in sociology at Pitt in 1939, won the Gold medal
in the 800-meter run during the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin. He was the last survivor of the 12 American men who won track and field gold medals in the 1936 Olympics.

Pitt celebrated the 70th anniversary of Woodruff's win in the 1936 Olympics at a campus celebration in October 2006, on the occasion of Woodruff's last visit to the University.
