10/4 Stephen Buchwald, professor of chemistry at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, will deliver a lecture titled "Transition Metal-Catalyzed Carbon-Carbon and Carbon-Heteroatom Bond Forming Processes: Progress, Applications, and Mechanistic Studies," at 4 p.m., Room 12, Chevron Science Center, 219 Parkman Ave., Oakland. 10/3 Anne X. Alpern, renowned Pittsburgh jurist who paved the way for women in the field of law, is the focus of an exhibition on the ground floor of Hillman Library, 3960 Forbes Ave., Oakland.
