Men's Glee Club at Pitt Returns From European Tour
PITTSBURGH-The Men's Glee Club at the University of Pittsburgh is just back from an Eastern European concert tour, where its members performed for audiences in Budapest, Vienna, Salzburg, and Prague.
The repertoire was largely American music-songs by Stephen Foster, George Gershwin, Count Basie, and The Beatles, as well as spirituals.
While the Glee Club tours annually in this country, this is the first time the club had been to Europe since 1990, the year of its centennial.
"Most of the places we visited have a real history of choral and classical music," said Glee Club director Richard Teaster, adding that the club was joined by a local folk choir during its performance in Salzburg.
The Men's Glee Club, made up of 30 members, was founded in 1890 and is the oldest nonathletic extracurricular activity at Pitt. Its members have been musical guests at two World's Fairs and have been featured in various TV and radio programs.
