University of Pittsburgh Professor Named President of the American Society for Public Administration
PITTSBURGH-Harvey White, professor of public and urban affairs and international development in Pitt's Graduate School of Public and International Affairs, was elected president of the American Society for Public Administration (ASPA), a national association based in Washington, D.C.
ASPA, established in 1939, represents the public service arena, and the group's 9,500 members serve as advocates for greater effectiveness in government.
In addition to his service at the University of Pittsburgh, White leads the University of South Alabama Center for Healthy Communities, which coordinates community education, research, public service, and health activities.
White earned his bachelor's degree in political science and philosophy at North Carolina Central University in 1972, his master's degree in political science at East Carolina University in 1978, and his Ph.D. degree in political science at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill in 1985.
