Showtime Television Series "Weeds" Creator Jenji Kohan to Speak at Pitt Nov. 20

PITTSBURGH--Jenji Kohan, the creator and executive producer/writer for the Showtime hit series Weeds will speak at Pitt Nov. 20, Room G-8, Cathedral of Learning, 4200 Fifth Ave., Oakland. This free public event will begin with a screening of the pilot episode of Weeds at

6 p.m.; it will culminate in a discussion with Kohan.

Carl Kurlander, a screenwriter and Pitt visiting distinguished senior lecturer, will moderate the event. Kurlander and Kohan will discuss the latest episode of Weeds, titled "Pittsburgh," and why the heroine's son believes life will be better for his family if they move to Pittsburgh.

An Emmy Award winner for Weeds, Kohan has written and produced many popular shows, including Gilmore Girls, Will & Grace, Mad About You, and Sex in the City. She has been featured on National Public Radio and in Entertainment Weekly, The New York Times, and last month's Rolling Stone "Hot Issue."

Weeds, which just wrapped up its second season, is about a suburban widowed homemaker who sells marijuana to support her family. Please note: Weeds has adult content and raw language.
