Researcher to Discuss Authenticity of Electronic Records at Pitt
PITTSBURGH-Albert Jacob Meijer, an associate professor at the Utrecht School of Governance, Netherlands, will deliver a lecture titled "Technological, Organizational, and Institutional Safeguards for Authentic Electronic Records" May 19 at noon in the University of Pittsburgh's Information Sciences Building, Room 501, 135 N. Bellefield Ave., Oakland.
Meijer will discuss the nature of safeguards for the authenticity of electronic records, and will address the integral arrangements of technological, organizational, and institutional safeguards in the design of recordkeeping systems. The lecture, part of the "Policy, Ethics, and Accountability" lecture series cosponsored by Pitt's School of Information Sciences and the Johnson Institute for Responsible Government in the University's Graduate School of Public and International Affairs, is free and open to the public.
Meijer studied chemistry at the University of Nijmegen and communication science at Wageningen University, and earned the Ph.D. degree at Erasmus University, Rotterdam, for his thesis on parliamentary and legal accountability in the information age, in 2002. Prior to teaching, Meijer was responsible for knowledge management at a Dutch organization for development aid and worked as a consultant with a small Dutch IT firm. Author of many academic papers and publications, Meijer conducts research on public accountability, information in public administration, and the use of e-mail by governmental organizations.
