"Hurricane Katrina: Our Vulnerabilities Revealed" Panel Discussion Sept. 21 Sponsored by Pitt's Graduate School of Public and International Affairs
PITTSBURGH-The University of Pittsburgh's Graduate School of Public and International Affairs (GSPIA) will sponsor a panel discussion titled "Hurricane Katrina: Our Vulnerabilities Revealed" from 4:15 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21, in Room 1700 of Posvar Hall, 230 S. Bouquet St., Oakland. The event is free and open to the public.
This GSPIA policy forum will bring together experts in the area of civil engineering and emergency preparedness to discuss infrastructure failures and intergovernmental and interagency disaster responses in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. A question-and-answer session will follow the panel discussion.
David Y. Miller, associate dean and professor of public and urban affairs in GSPIA, will moderate the event, which will feature panelists Christopher J. Earls, William Kepler Whiteford Faculty Fellow and associate professor and chair of Pitt's Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering in the School of Engineering; Louise Comfort, professor of public and urban affairs in GSPIA; and Rob Skertich, chief operating officer for the Southwestern Pennsylvania chapter of the American Red Cross and a public policy administration doctoral student in GSPIA.
