Yet Another Rise in Rankings—U.S. News & World Report Ranks Pitt 19th Among Top Public National Universities

PITTSBURGH—In the newly issued rankings for the 2006 edition of U.S. News & World Report's "America's Best Colleges," the University of Pittsburgh has risen for the fifth year in a row in the category "The Top 50 Public National Universities," to 19th place, ahead of such public institutions as Ohio State University, Rutgers University, University of Iowa, Indiana University-Bloomington, and Michigan State University. Pitt was tied for 19th place in "The Top 50 Public National Universities" category with the University of Georgia; last year it was tied for 26th place in this category.

In the U.S. News rankings two years ago, Pitt was tied for 27th place in this category; three years ago, it was tied for 31st place in this category; and the year before that, it was tied for 39th place.

Also, for the third year in a row, the University of Pittsburgh-Johnstown placed third in the North in the category "The Top Public Comprehensive Colleges."
