Most of us have experienced trouble sleeping at one time or another.This is normal and usually temporary,mainly due to stress.However,if sleep problems have become a pattern,you may want to check for any of these eight reasons:


MATRIMONIAL CONCERNS

A recent research at the University of Pittsburgh suggested that happily married women had fewer troubles falling and staying asleep,compared with unhappily married ones or those divorced. However,the happily married tend to come with wailing babies who refuse to get some shut-eye at night.In fact,another research mentioned that parents sleep and their satisfaction with the childs night-time behaviour was worse when he/she spent some part of the night with parents than when he/she slept apart.

MEDICAL ISSUES

Then,there could be a genuine medical problem that is causing you to stay up at night.If you are suffering from a case of sleep apnoea,know that the throat is blocked during sleep,preventing sufficient airflow to the lungs.The condition leads people to snore as well as temporarily stop breathing during sleep,which awakens them in the middle of a tight snooze.Likewise,poor heart health can also upset your sleep.People with heart failure may wake up because they are having trouble breathing as a result of fluid build-up in the lungs.Some people may also experience chest pain,atrial fibrillation and palpitations at night,which leads to sleeplessness.

CAUSE YOU AGE

Like it or not,as you age,you cannot and will not sleep like a baby.Sleep patterns change as we grow older.Health experts say that between the ages of 50 and 60,people tend to sleep lighter and wake up more frequently.Besides,the ageing population comes with its own set of health problems and chronic illnesses,like arthritis.Sleep disruption is also caused due to the pain caused by it.

HECTIC SCHEDULE

While a hectic day will help you hit the bed early,it can also disrupt the ability to get a good nights rest,especially if you dont make time to unwind for at least an hour before jumping into bed.Sleep experts say reading and meditating are way better options than staring into your computer or watching television.In fact,studies have shown that watching television before bed actually disrupts sleep cycles.So also,the temperature of your bedroom can also have an impact on how much you snooze.Its also believed that sleeping in a cool bedroom is better than sleeping in a warm one.

MENTAL HEALTH DISORDERS

Its estimated that 50 per cent of people who suffer from insomnia also suffer from an anxiety disorder.However,if youre a suffering from some sort of an anxiety issue,be warned that medications can also lead to insomnia.If youre having trouble sleeping,it is best to consult your doctor before you turn into a zombie.

ALWAYS A WOMAN

Some research has also proven that women tend to have higher rates of insomnia than men.Blame it on their ever-fluctuating hormones.Womans menstrual cycle,her time during pregnancy and menopause cause hormonal changes that can lead to disruption in their sleeping patterns.

TOO MUCH NAPPING

You may think youre being kind to your body by taking a good nap after a restless nights sleep.However,experts say that napping during the day decreases your overall need for sleep,which builds throughout the day.And this only complicates the problem further.

BINGE EATING AT NIGHT

Gorging on a big meal before bedtime means calling for trouble.Not only will you spend the night passing wind,as your body will be working over time trying to digest all that food,but youll end up sleeping restlessly.So avoid that big plate of biryani at night.Nutritionists recommend eating light snacks through the day.
