August 2, 2001

PITTSBURGH-–The University of Pittsburgh's Welsh Room Committee will hold its kick-off fundraising dinner on Sunday, August 5, 2001, at 3 p.m. at Shakespeare's Restaurant in Ellwood City. Funds are being raised to build a Welsh Nationality Classroom in the Cathedral of Learning.

A bagpiper, Highland dancer, and Welsh singing will highlight the event.

The history of the Welsh in Pittsburgh spans 200 years with many families immigrating to work in the coal and steel industries. Their language is complex and their singing exuberant.

Dale Richards, chair of the committee, has organized a group of supporters – many of whom are members of the St. David's Society of Pittsburgh, Inc. Others who would like to participate or join the kick-off effort may call 412-795-4050.
