University of Pittsburgh to Host Conference on Chemical Safety

PITTSBURGH-As the European Union (EU) begins to implement its new regulation on the Registration, Evaluation, and Authorization of Chemicals (REACH), the University of Pittsburgh will host a conference featuring an internationally renowned group of experts who will discuss implications for the United States.

The conference, REACH: A New EU Approach to Chemical Safety: Lessons for the United States? will be held June 8-9 in 2500 Posvar Hall, 230 S. Bouquet St., Oakland. It will begin with a keynote address by Ethel Forsberg, director general of the Chemical Ministry in Sweden.

Other experts to be featured at the conference are representatives of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Health Canada, Oxford University, Dow Chemical Company, the environmental advocacy group Environmental Defense, European Chemical Bureau, Gradient Corporation, King's Centre for Risk Management in London, California Department of Toxic Substances Control, Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection, the University of Pittsburgh, and other U.S. universities.
