LECTURES
9/5 Charli Carpenter, assistant professor in Pitt's Graduate School of Public and International Affairs (GSPIA) and Women's Studies Faculty Research Grant awardee, will deliver a lecture titled "Assessing Online Issue Networks: 'Women, Peace, and Security' in Real and Cyberspace," at noon, Room 2201 Posvar Hall, 230 Bouquet St., Oakland. 9/6 The Kobe-Pitt Symposium on Disaster Risk-Reduction and Response will be held Sept. 6-7 in the Schenley Room, Pittsburgh Athletic Association, 4215 Fifth Ave., Oakland. The symposium, a joint partnership between the University of Pittsburgh and Kobe University, will discuss and collaborate on issues relating to major disaster management. The event is sponsored by GSPIA, Asian Studies Center, Center for National Preparedness, and European Union Center and The Research Center for Urban Safety and Kobe University. THEATRE
9/9 Pitt's Kuntu Repertory Theatre, Pittsburgh's oldest African American theater, will
be holding auditions at Alumni Hall, 4227 Fifth Ave., Oakland, from noon to
4 p.m. Actors should prepare a short (18 line maximum) monologue; dancers
should prepare a short piece that shows their versatility; and singers should
prepare eight bars of two songs that show their range - one gospel and one pop.

9/12 Melanie Dreyer, assistant professor in Pitt's Department of Theatre Arts, brings
the world premiere of Andreas Jungwirth's Outside Inn to Pittsburgh. This special
limited engagement production will have its English preview at 8 p.m. in Pitt's
Charity Randall Theatre, Stephen Foster Memorial, Forbes Avenue and Bigelow
