Thomas Oliver Johnson II Appointed Commonwealth Trustee on the Pitt Board of Trustees
PITTSBURGH—Thomas “Tommy” Oliver Johnson II—vice president for government and public relations with Pittsburgh-based CONSOL Energy Inc.—has been appointed a Commonwealth Trustee on the University of Pittsburgh Board of Trustees by Pennsylvania House Speaker Samuel H. Smith. Pitt alumnus Johnson (Pitt-Greensburg ’99) succeeds John Wright Joyce, deputy executive director of administration and general counsel for the Allegheny County Housing Authority, who joined the Pitt Board in March 2009.
Johnson has been with CONSOL Energy for nearly a decade; he worked previously in the government relations practice at Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney PC. He also served as a legislative aide to former U.S. Senator and Pitt alumnus (BUS ’81G) Rick Santorum.
Johnson sits on the boards of the Greater Pittsburgh Chamber of Commerce and the West Virginia Chamber of Commerce, is the past chair of both the Three Rivers Workforce Investment Board and the Pennsylvania Coal Alliance, and is the past president of the Washington Coal Club. In addition, he participates in a number of state and federal trade associations dealing with energy and general business issues.
Johnson earned his Pitt Bachelor of Arts degree in communication and rhetoric. He is married to fellow Pitt graduate Stacie Grimaldi Johnson (A&S ’98); they live in Wexford, Pa., with their two children, Rylee and Jackson.
With more than 9,000 employees, publicly owned CONSOL Energy Inc., which produces both natural gas and high-BTU coal, is one of the leading diversified energy companies in the United States.
