Contact:  412-624-4147

PITTSBURGH, May 10 -- Two 20-foot support beams, key pieces of the Japanese Nationality Room to be completed this summer, will be hoisted through a third floor window Thursday, May 13, at 7:30 a.m. at the University of Pittsburgh's Cathedral of Learning.

Media are invited to capture the beam move on Thursday.

Japanese artisans have come to Pittsburgh specifically to reassemble architect Hirokazu Nagase's design, which replicates a Minka farmhouse room. The classroom was initially built in Kyoto, Japan and dismantled for shipping. The three craftsmen will be using traditional Japanese techniques to reassemble the walls, floor and ceiling of the structure.
