Pitt's Indian Nationality Room Committee to Hold Festival
PITTSBURGH—The University of Pittsburgh Indian Nationality Room committee will celebrate Indian Independence Day with the community, from noon to 4 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 17, with a festival in the Cathedral of Learning Commons Room.
Four winners of the Mahatma Gandhi Essay Contest will be announced and honored at this year's event. Attractions include classical Indian dancing, folk dancing, and henna painting. At the market place, one can buy clothing, music tapes, flags, and religious and popular artifacts. Also, vendors will tempt palates with samosas, pekoras, channa, and flat breads.
The event is open to the public and admission is free. For more information, call 412-624-6150.
