Contact:  412-624-4147

PITTSBURGH-Nearly 2,400 University of Pittsburgh students will take part in the second annual Pitt Make-a-Difference Day (PMADD) on Oct. 17. Volunteers will assist in several community-service projects, among them cleaning up streets and trails, removing graffiti, stocking food pantries, and assisting in community centers and retirement homes in Oakland and surrounding communities.

The event, which is modeled after the National Make-a-Difference Day, was created by members of the Pitt Student Government Board with support from the University's Division of Student Affairs. Students who participate in PMADD will receive community-service credit towards their Outside the Classroom Curriculum transcript.

Students can check in at the William Pitt Union, 3959 Fifth Ave., Oakland, at 8:30 a.m. Buses will depart at 9:15 a.m. to take students to the locations where they will volunteer. Buses will return to Pitt at 1 p.m.
