PITTSBURGH-The University of Pittsburgh Nationality Rooms and Intercultural Exchange Programs will host an awards presentation for the 2008 summer study abroad scholarship winners at 1 p.m. April 5, Room 332, Cathedral of Learning, 4200 Fifth Ave., Oakland.

This year, 36 students will receive scholarships ranging between $2,000 and $4,000 to study abroad. Students will travel for study in Austria, Belgium, Brazil (2), Cambodia, Cyprus, Dominican Republic, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, India, Ireland, Israel (2), Italy (2), Jamaica, Japan, Jordan, Mexico, Pakistan, People's Republic of China (4), Poland, Russia, Scotland, South Africa (3), Spain, Tanzania (2), and Turkey.

Funded by individual room committees, memorial awards, and numerous endowments, the Nationality Rooms Program awards enable students to complete credit-worthy study and experience several weeks' immersion in another culture as a means of expanding their international horizons. Since 1948, (including 2008), the Nationality Rooms Program has awarded 969 scholarships totaling $1,808,600.

The Nationality Classrooms are gifts to the University from Pittsburgh's ethnic groups to preserve their heritages. The 26 rooms, built between 1938 and 2000, are each designed in an architectural style appropriate to the country for which it is named.
