Contact:  412-624-4147

PITTSBURGH—The University of Pittsburgh will hold its first Light Up Night Celebration—with lights blazing on every floor of the Cathedral of Learning and William Pitt Union—at 5 p.m. Nov. 30, on the William Pitt Union Lower Lounge and Patio, 3959 Fifth Ave., Oakland. This event is free and open to the public.

Pitt's Student Government Board (SGB) is hosting the festival, described as a "celebration of celebrations" to promote SGB's "vision of a unified and knowledgeable community" during the upcoming holiday season. Students are encouraged to celebrate their holiday traditions at the five-hour festival and to experience the various holiday practices of others. Music, philanthropic events, and free t-shirts will be provided. In addition, a food festival will include a variety of traditional dishes associated with individual winter holidays.

Participating groups and their associated holiday include the Asian Students Alliance (Chinese New Year), the Black Action Society (Kwanza), Hillel (Hanukkah), the Indian Students Association (Diwali), the Muslim Students Association (Ramadan), and Orthodox Christian Fellowship (Celebration of St. Nicholas).
