PITTSBURGH, April 21 -- "It sounds as though there were some red flags in this tragedy, and those red flags should have been addressed," said Christina Newhill, professor in the University of Pittsburgh School of Social Work.

Newhill has researched violent behavior and is currently studying the link between that type of behavior and an individual's emotional problems. She has also studied mass murders and is well-versed on the type of help the Littleton community will need to recover from this trauma.

Newhill is available to discuss:

• why "red flags" are sometimes ignored

• how young people can report them without fear

• the responsibility of all parents

• the impact of this tragedy on the community

• factors to consider when trying to determine why it occurred

• suicide and unanswered questions

She can be reached at 412-624-6330 from 1:15 - 2 p.m. or from

3:30 - 5 p.m.
