Thomas J. Usher, retired CEO and chairman of U.S. Steel Corp.

Noteworthy: Usher was nominated for election as emeritus trustee for life at the University of Pittsburgh. He is non-executive chairman of the board of Marathon Petroleum Corp., one of the country's largest petroleum product refiners, marketers and transporters. Usher has been on Pitt's board since 1994.

Background: Usher is retired CEO and chairman of U.S. Steel Corp. He joined U.S. Steel in 1965 and held various positions in industrial engineering. Usher and his wife established the Sandra and Thomas Usher Endowed Chair in Melanoma at Pitt's cancer institute.

Education: Usher is a three-time Pitt graduate, with a Bachelor's in Industrial Engineering, a Master's in Operations Research and a Doctorate in Systems Engineering.
