Noteworthy: Allegheny County Council honored Bryant Andrews-Nino for his work as a student at the University of Pittsburgh and in the Oakland community.

Background: Andrews-Nino grew up in foster homes in central New Jersey. A family in the Philadelphia area adopted him when he was 8. He came to Pittsburgh for college and quickly became involved in the Oakland community. He worked with the Oakland Planning and Development Corp. as a student liaison to bridge the gap between students and full-time Oakland residents. He also worked with Oakwatch, an organization helping residents with code enforcement issues. He started the University Pre-Law Association to prepare undergraduates for law school and volunteered through the organization and his church, North Way Christian Community Church.

Education: Andrews-Nino graduated from Pitt in April with a double major in political science and communication rhetoric and a minor in legal studies. He started law school at Pitt last month.
