Gallagher formally becomes Pitt chancellor
Stephen Tritch, the chair of the University of Pittsburgh's Board of Trustees, formally installed Patrick Gallagher as chancellor and chief executive officer during the university's 39th annual Honors Convocation Saturday at Carnegie Music Hall, Oakland.
The trustees elected Gallagher the school's 18th chancellor on Feb. 8, 2014, and on Aug. 1, he took over the post. Before coming to Pitt, Gallagher served as acting deputy secretary in the Department of Commerce. He was director of the National Institute of Standards and Technology and undersecretary of commerce for standards and technology. The honors convocation recognized the accomplishments of Pitt's students and faculty and was held on the 228th anniversary of the university's founding.
