CHANCELLOR'S AWARD RECIPIENTS TO BE RECOGNIZED AT PITT'S 25TH ANNUAL HONORS CONVOCATION

PITTSBURGH, Feb. 16 -- Recipients of the annual Chancellor's Awards for outstanding contributions in teaching, research, and public service will be recognized at the University of Pittsburgh's 25th Honors Convocation, on Wednesday, Feb. 28, beginning at 3 p.m., in the Carnegie Music Hall. In all,

15 University of Pittsburgh faculty members and five Pitt staff members will be honored.

The 2001 Chancellor's Distinguished Teaching Award recipients are:

Lu-in Wang, School of Law; E. Bruce Goldstein, Department of Psychology, Faculty of Arts and Science; James R. Johnston, Department of Medicine, School of Medicine; Donald B. Egolf, Department of Communications, Faculty of Arts and Sciences; and Gordon R. Mitchell, Department of Communications, Faculty of Arts and Science.

The 2001 Chancellor's Distinguished Research Award has senior and junior categories. The senior research category recipients are: Jacqueline Dunbar-Jacob, Department of Health and Community Systems, School of Nursing; John Markoff, Department of Sociology, Faculty of Arts and Science; and David Pratt, Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Arts and Science. The junior research category recipients are: Vittorio Paolone, Department of Physics and Astronomy, Faculty of Arts and Science, and Julie Fiez, Department of Psychology, Faculty of Arts and Science.

The 2001 Chancellor's Distinguished Public Service Award recipients are: Thomas P. Foley, Jr., Department of Pediatrics, School of Medicine; Stephen J. Bagnato, Jr., Department of Pediatrics, School of Medicine; Roger D. Klein, Department of Psychology in Education, School of Education; Willa M. Doswell, Department of Health Promotion and Development, School of Nursing; and Margaret M. Mahoney, School of Law.

The recipients of the 2001 Chancellor's Distinguished Service Award for staff employees are: Carol A. Capson, personnel/payroll operations manager in the School of Education's dean's office; Stephen P. Zupcic, coordinator of the University's Volunteer Pool in the Office of Community and Governmental Relations; Kathleen A. Rud, executive assistant to the dean of the Faculty and College of Arts and Sciences; Delores E. Johnson, communications support specialist in University Relations, Graphics, Marketing, and Printing; and Jeffrey D. Liebmann, planning associate in the Office of the Provost.

All of the award recipients receive a cash prize, along with permanent recognition on a plaque in the William Pitt Union.
