PITTSBURGH, Feb. 9 -- The Pittsburgh Chapter of the Society for Neuroscience invites all Pittsburgh area middle school students to participate in a poster contest to coincide with Brain Awareness Week, March 16-22, 1998. The winning artist will be awarded a $200 savings bond and their poster will be used to advertise next year's Brain Awareness Week.

Brain Awareness Week, a national event now in its third year, is held by the Society for Neuroscience and the Dana Alliance for Brain Initiatives. During a week-long educational event brain scientists sponsor a variety of educational activities for the general public including lectures, lab tours, classroom visits, town meetings and exhibits to demonstrate the importance of basic neuroscience research to the health and well-being of the American public.

All Pittsburgh area sixth, seventh and eighth graders are encouraged to design and submit a poster to be judged by the Pittsburgh chapter of Society for Neuroscience. In addition to the first prize, second and third prizes of $150 and $100 savings bonds will also be awarded.
