Area "Diplomats" Honored
PITTSBURGH-As mock representatives of the United Nations member countries of Afghanistan, Ecuador, Greece, Italy, the United States, and Vietnam, 11 local high school students earned individual recognition Nov. 7 at Pitt's ninth annual Model United Nations (Model U.N.) Simulation.
Recipients of Diplomacy Awards were:
Priyanka Amin, North Allegheny Senior High School;
Omar Ayyash, North Allegheny Senior High School;
Erin Dauson, North Allegheny Senior High School;
Andrew Disher, West Allegheny High School;
Dave McElhattan, North Allegheny Senior High School;
Joan Heider, Mt. Lebanon High School;
Dan Magalotti, Mt. Lebanon High School;
Annika Matta, Mt. Lebanon High School;
Adriane McGraw, West Allegheny High School;
Neal Spada, Mt. Lebanon High School;
Shalina Wadhwani, Mt. Lebanon High School; and
Luke Wildfire, Mt. Lebanon High School.
Students were evaluated throughout the Model U.N. simulation at Pitt, and Diplomacy Awards were given in recognition of a student's ability to realistically present the position of the country he or she represented in mock sessions of the U.N. General Assembly and Security Council, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, and a Special Committee on the Charter of the United Nations.
In addition to individual awards, several school delegations were recognized for outstanding performances, including the delegations of Afghanistan and Ecuador from Mt. Lebanon High School, who won first and third place, respectively, and the Fox Chapel High School delegation representing India, who won second place.
