Pitt Provost James V. Maher to Step Down in 2010
Dr. James V. Maher, provost and senior vice chancellor at the University of Pittsburgh, announced his intention to leave that position and return to the faculty at the beginning of the next academic year or as soon after that as his successor can be in place. The University's chief academic officer since June of 1994, Provost Maher has served with distinction and is widely credited with helping to lead Pitt through a period of unparalleled progress. Pitt Nationality Rooms Committees to Decorate Ethnic Classrooms for Holiday Season Nov. 14
Each year, the rooms that encircle the Cathedral of Learning's Commons Room, 4200 Fifth Ave., Oakland, are trimmed to reflect their ethnic heritage, including such decorations as Lithuanian geometric straw ornaments, Polish paper cutouts, German gingerbread cookies, a French crèche, and a hand-carved Austrian manger scene. Guides will adapt their daily presentations to include descriptions of holiday traditions celebrated throughout the world. More >
