Lineup Announced for the University of Pittsburgh’s 42nd Annual Jazz Seminar and Concert

PITTSBURGH—Another lineup of international jazz greats is in place for the 42nd Annual Pitt Jazz Seminar and Concert, which runs Oct. 30-Nov. 3.

Bobby Watson, alto sax

Founded in 1971 by Pitt Director of Jazz Studies and Professor of Music Nathan Davis, the event features a stellar group of jazz musicians who will hold free on-campus lecture/demonstrations, visit area schools and community venues, and then perform onstage as an ensemble in Pitt’s annual gala jazz concert at 8 p.m. Nov. 3 in Carnegie Music Hall, 4400 Forbes Ave., Oakland.

Musicians taking part this year include Randy Brecker, trumpet; George Cables, piano; Winard Harper, drums; Javon Jackson, tenor saxophone; Abraham Laboriel, bass; Yotam Silberstein, guitar; Lew Soloff, trumpet; and Bobby Watson, alto saxophone, performing under the direction of saxophonist Davis.

Details of the other Pitt Jazz Seminar and Concert events, including dates and times of the lecture/demonstrations, will be forthcoming.

Tickets for the Nov. 3 gala concert are $18 general admission and $8 for students with a valid ID. They are available for purchase at the box office of the William Pitt Union, 3959 Fifth Ave., Oakland, and 1-4 p.m. Mondays through Fridays at the Pitt Repertory Theatre box office in the lower level of the Stephen Foster Memorial, Forbes Avenue and Bigelow Boulevard, Oakland. Student tickets must be purchased at one of those box offices.
